Jammu, September 29: The Disaster Management Centre, University of Jammu, in collaboration with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) 2nd Battalion, Jammu, successfully completed a one-week experiential learning training programme for the first-ever batch of first-semester postgraduate students of the Centre.
Held from September 21 to 29, 2026, the training programme focused on equipping students with practical skills in disaster response, rescue, survival and mitigation. The programme was conducted by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) 2nd Battalion, Jammu, under the guidance of Shri Mohd Aslam, SSP and Commandant, Prof. S.K. Pandita, Director, Disaster Management Centre, and Dr. Yudhbir Singh, University of Jammu.
During the programme, students underwent practical and theoretical sessions conducted by SDRF experts and operational specialists. The training covered water disaster rescue, emergency medical first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), high-tech field instrumentation, aquatic safety, flood survival protocols, triage, wound management and cardiac arrest simulations.
Addressing the students, Shri Mohd Aslam commended the University of Jammu for initiating the programme and urged the students to apply the skills acquired during the training in their everyday lives.
He stressed the importance of proactive risk reduction in disaster management and called upon the students to act as ambassadors of the Disaster Management Centre while promoting environmental stewardship and contributing to a clean and green future.
Prof. Pandita reiterating the Disaster Management Centre’s commitment to developing competent and field-ready professionals equipped to effectively respond to and mitigate natural and man-made disasters across the region.
As part of the programme, the students also visited SDRF Headquarters at Kot Bhalwal, where they were given demonstrations of search-and-rescue equipment, communication gadgets and modern disaster response hardware.
The training concluded with a valedictory ceremony, during which student representatives Alka and Niharika presented a report on their week-long learning experience and highlighted key takeaways from the various operational modules. Certificates of completion were jointly presented to the students by University and SDRF officials.
