JU Organises Industry Exposure for Students on International Coffee Day

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 30: Continuing its efforts to bridge classroom learning with practical industry exposure, the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM), University of Jammu, organised an experiential visit to The Grandstand, Jammu, for students of BBA Semester-V on the occasion of International Coffee Day.

The visit was aimed at providing students with immersive insights into the coffee industry and food and beverage management. The student delegation was accompanied by Prof. Suvidha Khanna, Director, SHTM; Prof. Anil Gupta, SHTM; Dr. Honeyka Gupta; and Mr. Tapas Tandon.

Prof. Suvidha Khanna, Director, SHTM, oriented the students about the significance of practical industry visits and highlighted how understanding niche segments such as beverage culture and specialised café management enhances career readiness and broadens perspectives within the hospitality sector. She also expressed appreciation to Mr. Ishaan Kashyap, Coffee Educator, Beanverse, for his support in organising the visit and for briefing the students upon their arrival.

During the visit, industry professionals at The Grandstand, The Palm Island, led by Mr. Ishaan Kashyap, conducted an interactive learning session on coffee. The students were acquainted with the historical origins and evolution of coffee, key bean varieties and various brewing methodologies. The experts also demonstrated the step-by-step processes involved in preparing different coffee beverages, with discussions on espresso extraction, milk texturing and flavour profiling required to maintain quality standards in modern beverage service.

Speaking on the initiative, Prof. Anil Gupta, SHTM, highlighted experiential learning as a vital component of the curriculum. He noted that direct exposure to operational practices and industry trends helps build professional acumen, fosters market readiness and provides students with a competitive edge as they prepare to enter the hospitality and service sectors.

The department extended its appreciation to The Beanverse, Jammu, for its warm hospitality, practical insights and efforts towards promoting experiential learning among students.
