University of Jammu Organises Two-Day Workshop on Brain-Computer Interfaces and Visual Evoked Potentials
Jammu, August 19: The Department of Computer Science and IT, University of Jammu, organised a two-day workshop on “Exploring Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) and Visual Evoked Potentials (VEP)” on August 18 and 19, 2026, for MCA and M.Tech students and research scholars. Faculty members of the department were also present during the inaugural session.
The workshop aimed to familiarise participants with emerging areas of Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI), Electroencephalography (EEG), Visual Evoked Potentials (VEP), and neural signal processing, while providing exposure to their applications and potential in interdisciplinary research.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Vibhakar Mansotra, Head, Department of Computer Science and IT, who welcomed the resource person and participants. He emphasised the significance of interdisciplinary learning and exposure to emerging technologies in the fields of BCI and neurotechnology.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Anubhav Rakshit, Neuroscientist and Neurotechnology Specialist and Field Application Scientist at g.tec Medical Engineering GmbH. He holds an MSc in Neuroscience from Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and has expertise in EEG, EMG, BCI, Machine Learning and Neural Signal Processing.
The workshop covered fundamental concepts, working principles and applications of BCI, VEP and EEG, with discussions focusing on their relevance to healthcare, assistive technologies, human-computer interaction, rehabilitation and neuroscience research. The first day featured informative sessions, discussions and demonstrations highlighting the use of brain signals in BCI-based applications.
The second day included a hands-on session on EEG signal acquisition and analysis, providing students and research scholars with practical exposure to working with brain signals and understanding their potential applications in BCI and VEP.
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from MCA and M.Tech students and research scholars of the department, who actively engaged in the sessions, discussions, demonstrations and hands-on activities.
The review and feedback session provided participants an opportunity to share their experiences and appreciate the informative sessions and practical activities. The Department also expressed its intent to pursue future collaborations with experts in the field of neurotechnology.
The programme concluded with remarks by Sh. Jasbir Singh, Sr. Assistant Professor, who acknowledged the efforts of the resource person, organisers, faculty members, students and research scholars in the successful conduct of the workshop.
Overall, the workshop provided valuable theoretical and practical exposure to BCI, EEG and VEP, while promoting interdisciplinary research and hands-on learning in emerging technologies.
