A two-day Hands-on Training-cum-Workshop on "Flow Cytometry" organised by JU

Jammu, May 07: The Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), University of Jammu, in collaboration with The Botanical Club, Department of Botany, University of Jammu, organised a two-day Hands-on Training-cum-Workshop on "Flow Cytometry." The workshop aims to provide scholars, students, and researchers in life sciences with practical exposure and advanced technical training in flow cytometry.

 

The inaugural session of the programme was presided over by the Chief Guest, Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences. In his address, he emphasized the importance of learning emerging scientific techniques to enhance research capabilities and skill development in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He highlighted the growing need to develop a skill-oriented environment in the field of life sciences and allied disciplines to empower youth with scientific and entrepreneurial capabilities.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Veenu Kaul, President, IIC, elaborated upon the vision and mission of the Institution's Innovation Council in fostering a comprehensive startup and innovation ecosystem within the University. She encouraged the younger generation to actively participate in innovation, creativity, and skill development initiatives, which are essential for achieving the national goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat. She also stressed the significance of corporate-oriented skilling and the preparation of professionally competent youth for future opportunities.

 

Earlier, Prof. Susheel Verma, Head, Department of Botany and Convenor, IIC, welcomed the guests and participants. He spoke at length about the workshop, its objectives, and the importance of flow cytometry as an advanced analytical tool in biological and biomedical research. He expressed hope that the workshop would provide valuable hands-on experience and technical expertise to the participants.

 

The resource person for the workshop, Dr. Praveen K. Oraon, Senior Scientist, Bionivid Tech Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, highlighted the significance of flow cytometry in modern biological research and discussed its diverse applications in ploidy analysis, genome size determination, cell density, disease diagnostics, and related areas.

 

The proceedings were conducted by Kamana Shandalaya and Dr. Romica Verma presented  the formal vote of thanks. 

 

Among others present were Prof. Namrata Sharma, Prof. Seema Langer, Prof. Pankaj Kumar, Dr. Sikander Pal, Dr. Geeta, Dr. Arti Sharma, Dr. Amit Gupta, Dr. Harish Chander, Dr. Rakesh Panjaliya, Dr. Bharthiraja, Dr. Ankit Mahajan, Dr. Sajan Thakur, Dr. Abhishek Dutta, and Dr. Komal Verma from the Faculty of Life Sciences.

 

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, and students from various departments and institutions, with practical demonstrations and interactive technical sessions on the applications and operation of flow cytometer being undertaken during the two-day programme.
