Russian News Agency Sputnik Organises Workshop on AI for Journalism Students of Jammu University

Jammu, April 7: Russian State News Agency Sputnik organised an exclusive online workshop on topic “How to use AI to create Audio-Visual Content” for the students of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Head of the Department, Prof. Dushyant Kumar Rai said, “The session effectively highlighted the practical workflows used by international news agencies like Sputnik. It reinforced the importance of combining AI tools with strong journalistic ethics, accuracy, and human creativity. We look forward to more such engagements in the future.”

 

He said that such initiatives align with the vision of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Umesh Rai, to promote industry-academia collaboration and prepare students for the rapidly evolving media landscape through technology integration.

 

Earlier, former head of the department, Prof. Garima Gupta said that the workshop was highly relevant and timely. It provided students valuable insights into emerging AI technologies and their application in journalism. Such industry-academia collaborations are essential for preparing the next generation of media professionals.”

 

Pavel Zaytsev, Traffic Manager, Sputnik News Agency and Radio shared his expertise having focus on equipping journalism students with practical knowledge of Artificial Intelligence tools in modern news production, including AI-generated text, audio, images, and video avatars.

 

 

Participating students appreciated the informative content and raised their queries on AI applications , ethical considerations, and the need for AI literacy alongside core journalistic skills during the question and answer session . Appreciating the active response of the students, Sputnik News Agency promised to organise more such sessions for the benefits of the students studying journalism and mass communication.

 

The workshop was moderated by Olga Dycheva, Head of Sputnik Hub in New Delhi and coordinated by Rashpal Dasgotra from Russian State News Agency Sputnik. Dr Pardeep Singh Bali and Dr Kumerjit Chajgotra, Assistant Professors, Department of Journalism and Media Studies, coordinated the workshop on behalf of the Department of Journalism.

 

Dr Ravia Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Media Studies delivered welcome remarks, whereas Dr Ramiyan Bhardwaj, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Media Studies extended closing remarks.
