UIET, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu, organizes Outreach Program titled “The Living Lab Project” at Lakhanpur Fort

The University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) organized an Outreach Program titled “The Living Lab Project” on February 10, 2026, as part of its academic and experiential learning initiatives. The program was conducted at the historic Lakhanpur Fort under the theme “Transforming Heritage into Sustainable Economic Ecosystems.” The activity was organized in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), reinforcing UIET’s commitment to innovation-driven and community-oriented education.
The outreach program was led by Dr. Mahesh Koul, who guided students through an immersive learning experience focused on heritage conservation, sustainability, and socio-economic development. The initiative aimed to bridge classroom learning with real-world exposure by using heritage sites as living laboratories for innovation and sustainable practices.
A group of 25 enthusiastic students from the Nature and Wildlife Club and the Tourism and Heritage Club, accompanied by four faculty members — Dr. Mahesh Koul, Dr. Nisha Choudhary, Dr. Reemani Verma, and Er. Ritika Gupta — actively participated in the program. The students engaged in hands-on activities including biodiversity exploration, a nature trail clean-up drive, and interactive learning sessions on sustainable tourism and heritage-based economic models.
The visit provided students with valuable insights into community engagement, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development, emphasizing how heritage assets can be transformed into drivers of local economic growth while preserving cultural and ecological integrity.
Through “The Living Lab Project,” UIET continues to promote experiential learning, innovation, and responsible citizenship, aligning academic pursuits with national priorities of sustainability and heritage conservation.
