University of Jammu, Inaugurates Major e-Governance Initiatives to Enhance Digital Administration and Services

Jammu, January 01: The University of Jammu today achieved a significant milestone in its digital transformation journey with the inauguration of three major e-Governance initiatives—Leave Management System, IT Service Desk Management System, and the Automated Official Email Creation System on the Jammu University domain.

 

The initiatives were formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai, who emphasized the pivotal role of technology in ensuring efficient, transparent, and accountable governance. Prof. Rai lauded the Director, Centre for IT Enabled Services & Management (CITES&M), and the team for their sustained efforts in modernising the University’s administrative and academic processes through innovative digital solutions. He further appreciated the launch of the Leave Management System and the IT Service Desk Management System, stating that these platforms would bring greater transparency to leave processing and complaint redressal mechanisms, and mark significant initial steps towards the University’s transition into a modern digital ecosystem.

 

All three systems have been designed, developed, and implemented by CITES&M, University of Jammu, under the guidance of Dr. Guneet Singh Sudan, Director, CITES&M.

 

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Guneet Singh Sudan stated that these initiatives aim to streamline workflows, enhance user experience, strengthen data security, and improve institutional efficiency, in alignment with the national objectives of Digital India and Good Governance. Emphasising the urgency of technological adoption, he remarked that embracing digital transformation is imperative to keep pace with the evolving AI-driven era.

 

Elaborating on the Leave Management System, Dr. Sudan informed that the system has been implemented for Teaching Employees and Officers of the University of Jammu. It provides a comprehensive online platform for the submission, recommendation, and sanction of leave applications. The system covers the complete leave lifecycle, including Station Leave and Country Leave, and ensures transparency, efficiency, and anytime-anywhere accessibility for employees across the main campus as well as off-site campuses. The Centre has implemented all 15 different  type of leaves and in the first phase, the following five types of leaves: Casual Leave (CL), Earned Leave (EL), Maternity Leave (ML), Paternity Leave (PL) and Child Care Leave (CCL) shall be available for online application for all teaching employees (including the main campus and off-site campuses) and officers (including the main campuses and off-site campuses).

 

Speaking about the IT Service Desk Management System, launched under the E-Governance/Good Governance initiative, he stated that the platform will function as a centralized mechanism for registering and resolving IT-related complaints and service requests. The system ensures systematic tracking, prioritization, monitoring, and timely resolution of issues, thereby significantly enhancing service delivery across the University.

 

Regarding the Automated Official Email Creation System, Dr. Sudan explained that the newly developed system will enable the automatic generation of official email IDs on the Jammu University domain for Undergraduate and Postgraduate students of the University of Jammu, on the suggestions of Shri Santosh D Vaidya, IAS Principal Secretary to Govt., Finance Department, substantially reducing manual intervention and improving operational efficiency. 

 

With the launch of these transformative digital systems, the Centre for IT Enabled Services & Management, University of Jammu, reaffirms its commitment to technology-driven governance, transparency, and the delivery of student- and employee-centric digital services, reinforcing the vision of Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, of a modern, efficient, and digitally empowered institution.
