Earth Day celebrated at JU

The Department of Economics, University of Jammu today celebrated World Earth Day with a spirited event aimed at promoting environmental consciousness and sustainability. 

In alignment with the theme of this year's Earth Day, "Planet versus Plastics," the department organized two engaging activities. The primary focus was on advocating for a reduction in plastic usage, particularly through a signature campaign titled "Say No to Polythene Bags." This initiative received overwhelming support from not only the faculty and students of the Department of Economics but also from members of various other departments. The collective effort resulted in a significant number of signatures, symbolizing a commitment to combating plastic pollution.

In addition to the signature campaign, a competition themed 'Reuse and Recycle' showcased the innovative prowess of students enrolled in the Master Degree Programme. Participants exhibited their creativity by presenting innovative ways to repurpose and recycle materials. The winning teams were duly recognized and rewarded for their contributions towards promoting sustainability.

The competition was adjudicated by Dr. Deepika Slathia, Member Secretary, Green Campus Task Force (JU). Dr. Slathia, while addressing the audience, emphasized the critical importance of recycling and advocated for reducing plastic usage in everyday life.

Dr. Tsering Yangzom, the Green Auditor of the Department, coordinated the event, ensuring its smooth execution. Others present on the occasion included Dr. Shallu Sehgal, Associate Professor; Dr. Apoorva Jamwal; Dr. Nikita Sharma; and Dr. Rennie Mahajan.
