DLL organizes one-day career counselling workshop at GDC Vijaypur

Jammu, September 29: Employment Information cum Advisory Bureau, the Career Counseling Cell of the Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, organized a one-day career counselling workshop on “Self Employment as a Career” and “Careers in Artificial Intelligence” for the students of Govt. Degree College, Vijaypur today.

Taking forward the vision of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu Prof. Umesh Rai, to extend the educational opportunities beyond JU, this workshop was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Priyanka Sharma, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu. The special resource persons from University of Jammu were Dr. Harleen Kour, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, and Dr. Malvika Ashok, Assistant Professor, Department of IT and Computer Sciences. Dr. Rewa Khajuria coordinated with the college for the successful organization of this workshop.

In her welcome address, Dr. Mamta Gupta, Convener, Career Counselling Cell, GDC Vijaypur, highlighted the importance and necessity of such programmes for the students. She appreciated the role of the Career Counseling Cell in organizing such career awareness programmes. She stressed that students should take benefit of such activities, as such activities can shape their career and lead them to the path of success.

Dr. Priyanka Sharma, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, in her address, oriented the students about the market scenario in terms of opportunities available. She highlighted the need to equip oneself with the knowledge and skills required to prepare for the demands of the market. She also highlighted that soft skills and experiential learning are required to align oneself with the world of work.

Dr. Harleen Kour, in her presentation, apprised the students about self-employment opportunities under the New India regime and the characteristics and benefits of being self-employed. She also explained in detail about various govt. schemes available for the students and advised them to keep working hard till their goal is achieved. Dr. Malvika Ashok, in her presentation, explained in detail to the students the various tools of Artificial Intelligence. She also explained how these AI tools can make our life easier by completing tasks in seconds. Dr. Rewa Khajuria, Counsellor, EIAB, DLL, JU, highlighted the importance of Career Counselling to the students and motivated them to choose their career paths as per their interests, personality, skills, and abilities.

The faculty members of the college, along with 43 students, attended the programme. The whole programme was conducted by Ms. Gunjeet Mahiwal. Prof. Ritu Bhagat, HOD, Education, GDC Vijaypur, presented the formal vote of thanks. The programme was held under the guidance of Dr. Ashu Vashisth, Principal, GDC Vijaypur.
