To Encourage and improve the professional skills of the Library professionals various workshops  and Orientation Programmes are conducted by the Dhanvantri Library from time to time. To educate,create awareness for active usage among the students, Dhanvantri Library is conducting special orientation programmes for the new registered students of all the departments of Jammu University in the beginning of each academic year. In addition various other activities and events are organised. Dhanvantri Library accord farewells to their staff at the time of superannuation. 07/01/2026: Inaguration of Shri Aurobindo Gyan Kendra at University of Jammu

Strengthening interdisciplinary learning, and holistic education, the University of Jammu inaugurated the Shri Aurobindo Gyan Kendra at the Dhanvantri Library, providing students, scholars, and members of civil society a dedicated space to engage with the life, writings, and teachings of Maharishi Sri Aurobindo. The Centre offers access to curated academic resources and promotes meaningful intellectual exchange across philosophy, literature, political thought, spirituality, and education.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Ms. Sakeena Masood (Itoo), Hon’ble Minister for Health & Medical Education, School Education, Higher Education and Social Welfare Departments, as the Chief Guest, in the presence of Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu. Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies; Prof. Sangita Gupta, Dean Planning and Development; Prof. J. P. Singh Joorel, Dean Academic Affairs; Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Registrar; Padma Shri awardee Prof. Lalit Magotra; Padma Shri awardee Sh. Mohan Singh and Amrinder Singh Amn, Ex-Culture Secretary were also present.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest appreciated the University’s initiative in creating an academic space that preserves intellectual heritage while advancing reflective and value-based learning. She observed that societies grow stronger when the contributions of educators, thinkers, and professionals are remembered and acknowledged, as such remembrance inspires future generations and sustains cultural continuity. She noted that knowledge institutions play a vital role in nurturing unity, mutual respect, and shared human values, encouraging learners to look beyond divisions and engage constructively with ideas that promote understanding and cooperation. She encouraged students to actively utilise the resources of the Gyan Kendra to strengthen critical thinking, deepen perspective, and cultivate a balanced outlook towards learning and life.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai expressed satisfaction over the inauguration of the Shri Aurobindo Gyan Kendra and underscored its significance as an academic space for students, researchers, and members of civil society. He noted that the Centre enables learners to explore Sri Aurobindo’s work across multiple disciplines, supporting research that promotes analytical thinking and meaningful connections between diverse fields of knowledge.
Prof. Rai further observed that the Gyan Kendra supports personal development in alignment with Sri Aurobindo’s emphasis on inner growth, self-awareness, and balanced living, integrating physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of learning. He recalled Sri Aurobindo’s role as a philosopher, educationist, poet, and freedom thinker whose ideas on education, social responsibility, and human evolution continue to resonate in contemporary society. The Centre, he added, would encourage students to link academic inquiry with ethical reflection and constructive social engagement.
On the occasion, a documentary on the life and teachings of Sri Aurobindo was also screened, offering participants deeper insight into his intellectual journey and philosophical legacy which was greatly appreciated by the Chief Guest. The Shri Aurobindo Gyan Kendra houses curated books, reference works, archival material, and digital resources, supporting research, seminars, reading programmes, and outreach initiatives for the university community and the wider public. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, Incharge Librarian, Dhanvantri Library. Among others present on the occasion included Deans, Directors, Rectors, Heads of Departments, faculty members, officers, staff, and students. 04/12/2025: University of Jammu Participates in National Webinar on Shodh-Chakra and INFLIBNET Platforms
University of Jammu, proudly announces the active participation in the prestigious National Online Meeting organized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the INFLIBNET Centre held on 3rd of December, 2025. The webinar was convened to review the progress of the Shodh-Chakra Portal and to discuss the effective utilization of two newly developed academic platforms — PRAGYA (Platform for Registration & Announcement of Global Youth and Academia) and the Patent Repository Management System (National Academic Patent Information Repository & Analytics Platform).
The meeting was jointly chaired by the Secretary, UGC, and the Director, INFLIBNET, and witnessed an overwhelming national response. Almost 1000 members from various Central, State, and Private Universities across India participated, including Vice Chancellors, Registrars, Deans, Directors, IQAC Coordinators, and other academic and administrative professionals.

16/10/2025: Book on “School Library Governance: Rules and Policies for Traditional to Automated libraries” Released at University of Jammu

A significant milestone in the field of library science was achieved today as the book titled “School Library Governance: Rules and Policies from Traditional to Automation” authored by Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Librarian, School Education Department, Poonch, was formally released at the Central Library, University of Jammu.
The book was released by Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, Senior Scientist, presently holding the charge of Director, Gandhian Centre for Peace and Sustainable Development, and Librarian, Central Library, University of Jammu, in the presence of eminent dignitaries and faculty members of the Central Library. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sahi appreciated the efforts of Dr. Sharma for his outstanding contribution towards strengthening the knowledge base of school librarians and bridging the gap between traditional and automated library systems. He highlighted that such works serve as valuable resources for library professionals, academicians, and students of library science.

25/09/2025: University of Jammu Hosts  Awareness Session on Web of Science, ProQuest Products & eBooks

Dhanvantri Library, under the patronage of Prof Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, organised a User Awareness Session on Web of Science, ProQuest Products & eBooks at Aurobindo Gyan Kendra, in Collaboration with Clarivate CTS in Dhanvantri Library. The session aimed at enhancing awareness among students, research scholars, and faculty regarding advanced digital resources and global research databases.
The programme was held under the able leadership of Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, In-charge Librarian, Dhanvantri Library. In his address, Dr. Sahi highlighted the importance of familiarising users with world-class research platforms and emphasised that such initiatives bridge the gap between traditional resources and cutting-edge digital tools for research and learning.
Resource persons from Clarivate including Mr. Saurabh Srivastava and Mr. Vishabh Sharma delivered insightful presentations. They explained how Web of Science provides access to high-quality, peer-reviewed journals, reliable citation indexes, and advanced analytical tools, which empower researchers to strengthen their literature reviews and improve the global visibility of their academic work. 16/09/2025: जम्मू विश्वविद्यालय के धन्वंतरि पुस्तकालय में हिंदी दिवस मनाया गया

हिन्दी दिवस के उपलक्ष्य में धन्वंतरी लाइब्रेरी एवं आई.जी.एन.सी. जम्मू के संयुक्त तत्वावधान में आज 16 सितम्बर 2025 सायं 4 बजे धन्वंतरी लाइब्रेरी, जम्मू परिसर में एक गरिमामयी कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया गया। यह आयोजन जम्मू विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति प्रो. उमेश राय के मार्गदर्शन द्वारा हुआ। कार्यक्रम में स्वरचित काव्य-पाठ एवं पोस्टर प्रदर्शनी (आई.जी.एन.सी. जम्मू द्वारा) का आयोजन किया गया। प्रदर्शनी में हिन्दी भाषा की महत्ता और उसकी विविधता पर केंद्रित आकर्षक पोस्टरों को प्रदर्शित किया गया, जिन्हें उपस्थित लोगों ने सराहा।
काव्य गोष्ठी में शोधार्थी एवं विद्यार्थी सक्रिय रूप से शामिल हुए। स्वरचित कविताओं का पाठ अदिति (शोधार्थी, हिन्दी विभाग), विवेक (एम.ए. तृतीय सेमेस्टर - हिंदी विभाग), हर्ष मन्हास, स्वर्णदीप बोघल, प्रिंस, मेघावत, डॉ. विक्रम साही तथा डॉ. भगवती देवी ने किया। उनकी कविताओं में हिन्दी भाषा के प्रति प्रेम, राष्ट्रीय एकता और संस्कृति की महक स्पष्ट रूप से झलकी।
इस अवसर पर वक्ताओं ने हिन्दी की महत्ता पर प्रकाश डालते हुए कहा कि हिन्दी मात्र एक भाषा नहीं, बल्कि हमारी संस्कृति और पहचान का दर्पण है। इस तरह के आयोजन न केवल भाषा के प्रति सम्मान को बढ़ाते हैं, बल्कि विद्यार्थियों को अपनी रचनात्मकता अभिव्यक्त करने का अवसर भी प्रदान करते हैं। कार्यक्रम में बड़ी संख्या में विद्यार्थी, शोधार्थी एवं साहित्य-प्रेमियों ने उत्साहपूर्वक भाग लिया। अंत में सभी ने हिन्दी भाषा को जन-जन तक पहुँचाने का संकल्प लिया।

Political Weekly Research Foundation (EPWRF), Mumbai, organized an Online Orientation Session on the EPWRF India Time Series (ITS) Database on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM via the Zoom platform.

The session was organized under the leadership of Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, In-Charge Librarian, Dhanvantri Library, who has been instrumental in introducing innovative learning and research support initiatives for the University community. The program commenced with a warm welcome note delivered by Mrs. Azmit Begum, Assistant Librarian, Dhanvantri Library, who greeted the keynote speaker, dignitaries, faculty members, research scholars, and students, setting a positive and engaging tone for the session.
The orientation was conducted by Mr. Bipin K. Deokar, Senior Deputy Director, EPWRF, Mumbai, who provided detailed insights into the structure, coverage, and application of the EPWRF ITS Database. This unique interactive platform offers comprehensive data on India’s Macroeconomic, Financial, and Social Sector Indicators. With its 42 subject modules, the database serves as a valuable tool for research, analysis, and informed decision-making. Students, scholars, and faculty members from the Departments of Commerce, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, and The Business School of the University actively participated in the session. Participants acknowledged that the orientation provided them with practical exposure to effectively navigating and utilizing the database for academic and professional purposes.

Dhanvantri Library, University of Jammu, celebrated Librarians’ Day on 21st August 2025 with great enthusiasm to honor the legendary Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India. The occasion was graced by Prof. Sangita Gupta (Head DLIS and Dean Planning & Development) as the Chief Guest, who was warmly felicitated by the staff of Dhanvantri Library. 

The event commenced with the warm proceedings conducted by Ms. Azmit Begum, Assistant Librarian, setting a cordial tone for the program. This was followed by an insightful address by Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, In-charge Librarian, who shared his valuable thoughts on the remarkable contributions and achievements of Dr. Ranganathan in the field of Library and Information Science. He emphasized that Ranganathan’s principles remain a guiding light for libraries even in today’s era of rapid technological advancement.

29/07/2025: A three day book exhibition started by Dhanvantri Library, University of Jammu to pay tribute to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

A three-day Book Exhibition was inaugurated today on 28th July, 2025 at the Dhanvantri Library, University of Jammu, to pay tribute to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, fondly known as the Missile Man of India. The exhibition celebrates his visionary legacy and outstanding contributions to Science, Education, and Nation-building. The event was graced by Prof. Naresh Padha, who was the Chief Guest. In his address, Prof. Padha paid heartfelt tribute to Dr. Kalam, describing him as “a guiding light for generations to come.” He encouraged students and scholars to uphold the values of knowledge, innovation, and integrity that Dr. Kalam embodied.

Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, the In-charge Librarian, extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest and explained the motive of this book exhibition where thoughtfully curated collection of books by and about Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, as well as influential works on Science, Technology, Leadership, and National Development are displayed.

Following the inauguration of the book exhibition, a special guided tour of the Dhanvantri Library was conducted. The tour offered an in-depth look into the functioning of various library sections and showcased recent innovations, including digitization projects, upgraded research support services, and technology-integrated facilities. The walkthrough not only highlighted the library’s evolving infrastructure but also emphasized its commitment to enhancing the academic experience. The event was organized under the supervision of the Library Activity Committee headed by Shri Rakesh Kumar, Dy Librarian and Convener of the committee.

The event was graced by Prof. Manoj Kumar Verma, Head, Department of Library and Information Science, as the Chief Guest.

24/05/2025: Training session for the tendering of Journals/e-Journals

Under the able guidance of I/C Librarian, Dhanvantri Library Dr Vikram Singh Sahi and his vision to move forward in the era of IT , periodical section of Dhanvantri Library today conducted training regarding E-tendering for purchasing of journal/e-journals. An expert from NIC Mr Deepak was the resource person for this training who explained in details about the procedure of e- tendering by floating a dummy tender. 30/04/2025: Awareness session for Research Scholars for the use of e-Resources under ONOS

Under the leadership of Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, the In-charge Librarian, Dhanvantri Library at the University of Jammu, in collaboration with the School of Biotechnology, successfully organized an awareness session for research scholars of the Department of Biotechnology on the resources available under the "One Nation, One Subscription" initiative by the Government of India. The event was held on April 30, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Seminar Hall of the School of Biotechnology.

The session was led by Ms. Azmit Begum, who provided valuable insights into how research scholars can access a wide range of high-quality digital resources made available through the "One Nation, One Subscription" scheme. This initiative is designed to ensure equitable access to scholarly journals, research papers, and digital materials across India, enabling researchers to enhance their academic and scientific pursuits. Dhanvantri Library at the University of Jammu organized an informative and interactive session on ProQuest One Academic on March 4, 2025. This session aimed to equip research scholars with valuable tools and resources to enhance their academic journey. The session provided an in-depth overview of ProQuest One Academic, an invaluable research platform offering access to a wide range of resources, including e-books, journals, theses, dissertations, and more, sourced from reputed publishers. With a focus on aiding scholarly research, the platform also integrates AI tools for research assistance, making it easier for researchers to streamline their work.

28/02/2025: Dhanvantri Library Celebrates National Science Day

Today, Dhanvantri Library successfully organized a Book Exhibition on Science for Skill, Innovation, and Incubation in honor of National Science Day. The event aimed to promote scientific learning, skill enhancement, and innovation among students and researchers. It offered attendees the opportunity to explore and engage with valuable resources, providing in-depth insights into various areas of science and technology.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. Alka Sharma, Director of SIIEDC, University of Jammu, who emphasized the importance of nurturing a scientific mindset and promoting innovation. A key highlight of the event was an engaging interactive session with Dr. Jatinder Manhas, Associate Professor in Computer Science and IT, and Dr. Sandeep Arya, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics. During this session, staff and students of the DYD Programme actively participated in discussions about emerging scientific advancements and their real-world applications.

The exhibition saw enthusiastic participation from teaching and non-teaching staff, students of the DYD Programme, and research scholars, all of whom explored a wide selection of books spanning various scientific fields. The event provided an enriching experience that sparked curiosity and fostered a deeper understanding of science. 21/02/2025: Book Exhibition on the occasion of International Mother Language Day

On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, the Dhanvantri Library, University of Jammu, organized an engaging book exhibition that highlighted the rich literary heritage of the Dogri language on the 21st of February, 2025. Under the able guidance of I/C Librarian Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, the exhibition showcased a wide collection of Dogri literature, including textbooks, reference materials, novels, fiction, and theses. The event emphasized the importance of preserving the mother tongue and promoted the need for linguistic diversity in today’s multicultural world.

The event attracted a distinguished and diverse gathering from across the University, including faculty, officers, non-teaching staff, research scholars, and students, all coming together to celebrate the significance of language and culture. The exhibition was formally inaugurated by the chief guest, Prof. Suman Jamwal, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. In a gesture of respect, Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi welcomed her with a bouquet, marking the beginning of an insightful and engaging event. 12/11/2024: APS Domana Visited Dhanvantri Library 

Army Public School Domana visited Dhanvantri library today on 13.11.24. Accompanied by their school’s TGT library Mrs Nirmal Sahwney, 28 students of 8th standard came here for exploring library services being provided to the users. This visit is coordinated by Mrs Azmit Begum Assistant librarian, who took these students to different sections of library and reading halls. Students were briefed about the functioning’s of the library and also make aware about the different facilities being provided to the users of the library. 12/11/2024: HSS Barakh, Reasi visited Dhanvantri Library

Students from government higher secondary school Barakh, Reasi visited Dhanvantri library on 12.11.2024. These students were accompanied by principal of school Mr Girdhari Lal Sharma and 10 other staff members. These students were taken to different sections of the library and briefed about the work and culture of the library. These students learn many different things including how to trace books by author titles or subject, how to use different online resources of the library, they also learned how to books and other reading materials are arranged for the convenience of users etc. this visit is conducted by Mrs Azmit Begum (Assistant librarian). Library visits help students feel more comfortable using library resources and encourage lifelong skills. It’s an opportunity to explore new ideas and strengthen their curiosity.

25/10/2024: Dhanvantri library University of Jammu organised book fair in collaboration with National Geographic organisation.

The book fair was inagurated by Prof Rajeev Rattan, Director College Development Council, University of Jammu. Prof Ratan applauded the efforts of the Library in organsing this book fair.

Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, I/C Librarian, explained in detail the objective of organising book fairs and assured that such book fairs will become a regular feature in order to bring students closer to the books. He also appreciated the efforts of Mrs Nimmi Suri I/C Acquisition Section and her team for organising the book fair.

Later in the day, Dr Jatinder Khajuria, Finance Officer of the University also visited the book stalls and appreciated the efforts of the library staff in organsing this book fair. 19/10/2024: Dhanvantri Library, University of Jammu, successfully concluded a one-month long internship program for Master of Library and Information Science (MLIB) students from the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu.

The comprehensive program provided hands-on experience in:

14/09/2024: Dhanvantri Library, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Translation Club Celebrate Hindi Diwas in Collaboration with IGNCA, Jammu.

The Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Dhanvantri Library, and Translation Club, University of Jammu, under the auspices of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) Jammu, celebrated Hindi Diwas today with literary discussions and symposium.

The celebration featured a panel discussion that brought together eminent scholars and faculty members, including Prof. Sham Narayan Lal from the History Department, Prof. Dushyant Kumar Rai from the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, Dr. Shruti Awasti, Regional Director of IGNCA, and Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi, Incharge Librarian at the University of Jammu. 

The panelists engaged in an in-depth discussions on the literary contributions of renowned Hindi authors such as Munshi Premchand, Bhartendu Harishchandra, Jaishankar Prasad, Mahadevi Verma, Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, and HSV Agyeya, etc.

Earlier in the day, a symposium was held for students from the Department of Journalism and Media Studies and the Department of English. Fourteen students participated and shared their insights on the works of iconic Hindi writers, including Premchand, Suryakant Tripathi Nirala, Bhawani Prasad Mishra, and Harivansh Rai Bachchan, etc.

Aryan, a first-semester student from the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, was awarded first prize for his presentation. Suhani Gupta and Sakshi Shawney secured second and third places, respectively. The event was smoothly managed by Swati, while Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi extended a formal vote of thanks to the attendees.

03/09/2024: Certificate distribution ceremony of the training course held for Library Professionals of Jammu University

Library System on execution and technical knowledge of the various in-house Library operations of Updated version of Libsys10 Library Management Software, under the august supervision of I/C Librarian, Dhanvantri Library, University of Jammu Dr. Vikram Singh Sahi. The Ceremony was graced by the presence of Prof. Rahul Gupta, Registrar, University of Jammu, who distributed certificates to the participants. The I/C Librarian in his comprehensive speech, highlighted the significance of the training program. He added that the LibSys-10 Modules Training Program, is a comprehensive initiative aimed at empowering participants with advanced knowledge of the LibSys Software, covered various aspects of Library Management, including cataloging, circulation, acquisition and the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). The Worthy Registrar of the University of Jammu addressed the gathering, acknowledged the efforts of the I/C Librarian and the Library Staff and emphasized the importance of continuous learning and professional development.

Mr. Indresh Kumar Account Manager, Springer Nature, was the Resource Person.
