The Department of Punjabi was established in 1972. The curriculum of the programme has been formulated in such a manner that a student pursuing the course not only learns about Punjabi language, literature but also understands the concept of Indian literature and world classics. The main objective of the Department has been to provide quality education and to acquaint the students/scholars with the latest techniques of teaching and research with professional competency. Thrust areas of research are Punjabi language, literature and culture, linguistics, Comparative literature and linguistics, Punjabi Theatre and Drama, Punjabi Fiction, Post Modern Literary Trends, Punjabi Poetry, Criticism Meta Criticism, Regional literature and languages/speech forms and impact of Electronic Media on Punjabi language and literature.
