Geography of settlement

Cartography

  • The main objective of this course is to make students aware about different cartographic techniques for representation of data pertaining to physical and human landscape.
  • An effort is made to help them to develop manual skills of drawing maps based on data related to physical and human aspects of Geography.
  • Students are also told about choice of map projections, models and benefits of computer assisted cartography and GIS in cartography.

India: Regional Geography

  • The concept of region and regionalisation and to make them aware about drainage system, soil and vegetation types of India.
  • The resource regions, multipurpose projects and population characteristics of the country.
  • The agriculture, impact of the green revolution and about the industrial development in the country.
  • The geographical personality of Indo-Gangetic plains, Jammu & Kashmir, coastal regions and islands of Andaman Nicobar and Lakshadeep.

World Regional Geography

  • The students will be able to identify, understand and describe different physiographic features and demographic attributes found throughout the world.
  • The students will be able to discuss, apply, analyse and illustrate different concepts and processes of physical and human geography with the help of maps and diagrams.
  • Students will be able to compare and contrast the physical and human aspects found in different continents.

Regional Planning and Development

  • To  gain knowledge about definition of region, evolution and types of regional planning
  • Build an idea about theories and models for regional planning.
  • Know about measuring development indicators.
  • Ability to prepare region specific plans for development.

Geography of Rural Development

  • Students  can know about concept, basic elements of rural geography, and measures  of rural development.
  • They understand the paradigms of rural development in the light of rural development policies adopted in India

Agricultural Geography

  • The students acquire knowledge of the fundamental of agricultural geography.
  • To gain in-depth knowledge of agricultural geography based on Von Thunen’s model and concepts of crop concentration, diversification, combination; agricultural productivity and efficiency.
  • Conceptualize, demarcate and analyze the geographical determinants of agricultural regionalization .
  • Inculcate the knowledge of changing dynamics in the agricultural sector that will help them in their research studies .
