JAMMU, JUNE 15: The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), University of Jammu, organized a Pre-Admission Counselling Session for various Master of Arts (MA) programmes offered through Distance and Online modes for the Academic Session 2026–27.
Welcoming the participants, Prof. Pankaj K. Srivastava, Director, CDOE, highlighted the growing significance of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online Education in the context of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He informed the learners that degrees earned through Distance and Online modes are recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and are at par with degrees obtained through the regular mode.
Prof. Srivastava further stated that CDOE is recognized by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB), UGC, and functions under the aegis of the University of Jammu, a NAAC A++ accredited Category-I institution known for its academic excellence and autonomy. He emphasized that students enrolled in CDOE are provided opportunities to participate in cultural activities, sports events, debates, NSS programmes, and various talent-development initiatives. He added that efforts to enhance employability through job fairs and collaborations with reputed institutions are a regular feature at CDOE.
Prof. Anupama Vohra, PG English Coordinator, briefed the participants on the evolution of Distance Education and the role of CDOE in expanding access to quality higher education. She elaborated on the learner support services available at CDOE and its Learner Support Centres.
Prof. Anju Sharma Thappa, PG Hindi and PG Dogri Course Coordinator, apprised the participants of the eligibility criteria, salient features, scope, and academic structure of the MA Hindi and MA Dogri programmes, highlighting the opportunities available to students through these courses.
Dr. Jasleen Kaur, Teacher Incharge, PG English, provided detailed information about the MA English programme offered through the Online Mode and highlighted its academic flexibility and learner-friendly features.
Dr. Rajber Singh Sodhi, PG Punjabi Coordinator; Dr. Parshotam Paul Singh, PG Urdu Coordinator; and Dr. Jatinder Singh, Teacher Incharge, PG Dogri, also discussed the curriculum, career prospects, and academic opportunities available in their respective disciplines with the participants.
Dr. Pooja Sharma and Dr. Pragati Jasrotia, Teachers Incharge of PG programmes, also interacted with the participants and satisfactorily addressed their queries.
Around 150 prospective learners participated in the session, which aimed to familiarize students with the academic programmes, admission process, learning resources, and opportunities available at CDOE.
The counselling session concluded with an interactive discussion, providing prospective learners with comprehensive information about the academic offerings and support mechanisms available at CDOE for the Academic Session 2026–27.
