CEC, New Delhi and University of Jammu Organize Workshop on MOOCs Awareness for Academicians

Jammu, June 05: The Directorate of Quality Assurance (DIQA), University of Jammu, and the Office of the University SWAYAM Coordinator organized an online workshop on "MOOCs Awareness for Academicians" in association with the Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), New Delhi. The workshop aimed to promote digital learning, enhance awareness about the SWAYAM platform, and encourage faculty participation in the development and delivery of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).

 

The programme was organized with the support of the Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), New Delhi, under the leadership of its Director, Prof. Parikshit Singh Manhas. As the National Coordinator for Undergraduate MOOCs on SWAYAM, CEC continues to play a significant role in advancing technology-enabled education and facilitating the creation of quality digital learning resources for higher education institutions across the country.

 

Welcoming the participants, Prof. Dr. Sunil Mehru, Joint Director (SW), CEC, New Delhi, highlighted the transformative role of MOOCs in expanding access to quality education and fostering a culture of lifelong learning. He emphasized the importance of faculty engagement in digital education and encouraged academicians to actively contribute to the evolving online learning ecosystem.

 

An introductory session on the CEC Outreach Programme was conducted by Ms. Shristi Rana, who provided an overview of CEC's initiatives for strengthening digital education and promoting awareness about MOOCs among higher education institutions.

 

Addressing the participants, Dr. Ginny Dogra, Director, Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance, University of Jammu, underscored the importance of technology-enabled learning in enhancing academic quality and aligning higher education with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.She further highlighted that active involvement in MOOCs and other professional development initiatives is an important factor considered in accreditation and ranking frameworks and that additional capacity building workshops will be organized in the near future to further support faculty development and quality enhancement initiatives .Director, DIQA, expressed sincere gratitude to the Vice Chancellor Prof.Umesh Rai, for his constant encouragement and visionary leadership in promoting quality enhancement initiatives and strengthening the University's commitment to excellence in digital learning.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sarika Manhas, University SWAYAM Coordinator, University of Jammu, highlighted the University's efforts to integrate SWAYAM into its academic framework. She informed that during the academic session 2025–26, 1,027 students successfully qualified SWAYAM examinations, while students enrolled in 70 different SWAYAM courses across diverse disciplines. She also encouraged faculty members to explore opportunities for developing MOOCs and contributing to the national digital learning ecosystem through the support available from CEC.

 

A major highlight of the workshop was a comprehensive technical session by Prof. Sapna, resource person from CEC who delivered a detailed presentation on the process of developing MOOCs for the SWAYAM platform. She elaborated on various stages of MOOC development, including course conceptualization, instructional design, content organization, video production, assessment strategies, and quality assurance. The session provided faculty members with valuable insights into the academic and technical support mechanisms available through CEC for creating high-quality online courses.

 

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members representing various teaching departments and centres of the University and faculty from the affiliated colleges of the university of jammu. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks presented by Ms. Mehak Arora, from CEC.
