Reasi Campus, University of Jammu Celebrates 77th Republic Day and 150th Year of “Vande Mataram”

Reasi Campus of the University of Jammu celebrated the 77th Republic Day of India on 26 January 2026 with great fervour and enthusiasm at its campus located in Village Jadh, Reasi. The event was attended by students, teaching and non-teaching staff members, and members of civil society.

The National Tricolour was unfurled by Prof. Sushil K. Pandey, Director, Reasi Campus, who also served as the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his address, Prof. Pandey welcomed the gathering and congratulated everyone on the occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day. He elaborated on the fundamental rights and duties enshrined in the Indian Constitution, emphasizing the values of equality, justice, and freedom.

He highlighted the salient features of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees equal rights to all citizens without discrimination. Prof. Pandey also spoke about the visionary leadership and immense contribution of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in drafting the Constitution, along with other eminent leaders such as Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Govind Ballabh Pant, Acharya J. B. Kriplani, Shri Sarat Chandra Bose, and Shri Sachchidananda Sinha. He further paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices led to India’s independence from British rule in 1947.

Emphasizing the importance of youth, Prof. Pandey stated that young citizens are the backbone of a growing nation and play a crucial role in shaping India’s future. He encouraged students to actively contribute towards achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, as envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

The celebration featured a vibrant cultural programme presented by students, including patriotic speeches, poems, songs, and dances. The enthusiastic participation of the students was widely appreciated by the audience.

The event also marked the 150th year of the National Song “Vande Mataram.” All present joined together in a collective rendition of the song. Prior to this, Prof. Pandey briefed the gathering about the historical significance of Vande Mataram, written by Shri Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1872, and its pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle.

Prof. Pandey congratulated the students and staff members for their active participation and expressed his sincere gratitude to Dr. Nisha Sharma, Dr. Pankaj, Dr. Ravi Kumar, Ms. Nidhi Thakur, Mr. Babloo Salaria, and Mr. Sandeep Sharma for their tireless efforts in successfully organizing the event.
