University of Jammu Celebrates Dogri Manyata Divas

In a vibrant display of cultural pride and literary reverence, the P.G. Department of Dogri, University of Jammu, today celebrated Dogri Manyata Divas with great enthusiasm. The event marked the historic recognition of Dogri as an independent Scheduled Language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution on December 22, 2003—an important milestone that affirmed Dogri’s place among India’s rich linguistic heritage.

The entire programme focused on Dogri young writers, who are pass-out students of the P.G. Department of Dogri, University of Jammu. Eminent literary personalities including Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar awardee Dr. Yash Raina, Dr. Sandeep Sufi, Sh. Rajinder Raina, Ms. Ganga Sharma, Dr. Ashu Sharma, Sh. Bramh Dutt, and Ms. Heena Choudhary were felicitated, along with the students of the Department, for their outstanding contributions to Dogri language and literature. These distinguished writers also encouraged the students to draw inspiration from their creative journeys and continue working for the promotion of Dogri.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Sushma Sharma, Head of the P.G. Department of Dogri, highlighted the historical, cultural, and literary significance of the Dogri language. She remarked that Dogri is not merely a means of communication but the soul of the region’s identity, reflecting its traditions, folklore, and collective memory. She stressed the importance of nurturing young writers and scholars to ensure the continued growth and relevance of Dogri in contemporary times.

The programme featured various cultural performances, including Dogri folk songs, poetry recitations, and traditional expressions, which added colour and vibrancy to the celebration. Dr. Padam Dev Singh, Assistant Professor, was also present on the occasion and highlighted the cultural importance of the Dogri language. Renowned poet Dr. Tersam Raina recited a Dogri poem, adding a rich cultural touch to the event and leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

The event was organized under the able guidance of Dr. Sandeep Dubey, Assistant Professor, P.G. Department of Dogri, who played a pivotal role in planning and coordinating the programme and ensuring its smooth and systematic execution.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Radha Devi Sharma, Assistant Professor, P.G. Department of Dogri, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the dignitaries, participants, faculty members, and students for their wholehearted support and valuable contributions in making the event a grand success.
