Jammu, 25th November, 2025:To commemorate “International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women”, the Centre for Women's Studies, University of Jammu, successfully conducted a session for the students of University of Jammu on 25th November, 2025.
Prof. Savita Nayyar, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu addressed the participants.In her address, she deliberated that each of us has a role to play: speaking up when we see injustice, supporting survivors, teaching respect, and creating safe spaces at home, in schools, online, and in society. She also explained in detail the violence against women that exists in many forms like physical harm, emotional abuse, harassment, discrimination, and even digital threats. Each form is equally damaging and unacceptable.She further added that laws are there to prevent violence but each one of us have to make efforts to eliminate violence from society.
The participants also took pledge with the commitment to build a society where every woman is safe, protected, respected and empowered.The pledge concluded with the promise that today onwards each one of us will not remain silent bystanders but become active supporters of equality, respect, and safety for all women.
Large numbers of students, staff and Gender champions participated in the event. Dr. Saranjit Kaur, faculty member from Centre for Women’s Studies conductedthe proceedings of the eventand the formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Disha Sharma, both faculty members Centre for Women’s Studies.
