Department of Strategic and Regional Studies, University of Jammu Pays Tributes to the Martyrs of 26/11 Terror Attack and also Observes Constitution Day

The Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS), University of India, organised a commemorative and academic programme on 26th November to honour the martyrs of the 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack and to observe the Constitution Day of India. The objective of the programme was to pay homage to the brave security personnel and civilians who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty and to reaffirm the constitutional values that bind and guide the nation.

The event commenced with the lighting of a lamp and a moment of silence, observed in memory of the victims and heroes of the 2008 Mumbai attack. The sincere beginning symbolised the resolve of young minds to understand national security challenges and the vital importance of constitutional governance in protecting the unity and integrity of the nation.Ms. Kanika Chib, a student of M.A. 1st Semester, and Mr. Piyush Choudhary, a student of 3rd Semester, conducted the proceedings of the programme.

Dr. Ganesh Malhotra, a faculty member of DSRS, presented an insightful lecture on the unique features of the Indian Constitution, including its democratic ethos, federal structure, and the balance between fundamental rights and duties. He stressed the importance of constitutional institutions in protecting national sovereignty and ensuring social justice. Dr. Malhotra briefly also reflected on the 26/11 Mumbai attack, highlighting its impact on India’s security preparedness and collective national resolve. He emphasized that such incidents reinforce the importance of strong institutional mechanisms to safeguard the nation.

Dr. Mohd. Monir Alam, a senior faculty member of DSRS, delivered a detailed lecture outlining the strategic implications of the attack, the response of national security forces, and the lessons it offered for India’s counter-terrorism framework. He also condemned the recent Delhi bomb blast, stating that such terrorist acts threaten the fabric of society and national harmony. Dr. Alam emphasized that no act of violence, under any circumstance, can be justified in a civilised nation.  He also highlighted the significance of Constitution Day as a celebration of India’s democratic principles and institutional strength. He emphasized the need to uphold constitutional values to ensure justice, equality, and national integrity.

This event was attended by Dr. Surinder Mohan, Dr. Ranjan Sharma, Dr. Sunil Kumar, research scholars, and PG students of the department. The DSRS reaffirmed its commitment to fostering research and awareness on national security issues, inspiring young scholars to contribute meaningfully to India’s defence and strategic policy discourse.
