University of Jammu Organises Workshop on Personality Development and Communication

Jammu, Sept 30: The Department of Commerce, University of Jammu, successfully concluded a Five-Day Workshop on Personality Development and Communication, with an aim to enhance the professional competencies of the students. The workshop was designed to provide participants with practical exposure to essential interview and soft skills that complement academic knowledge and prepare them for the challenges of the modern workplace. The resource person for the workshop was Ms. Neetu Dhar, Chairperson, Jammu Pariyatan Vikas Cooperative Ltd., and Chief Coordinator & Master Trainer, JK Dairy. Ms. Dhar conducted highly interactive and insightful sessions.

During the opening session, Ms. Dhar introduced participants to the fundamentals of effective communication and interpersonal skills, emphasizing how verbal and non-verbal communication shapes relationships in personal and professional contexts. She further elaborated on public speaking, personality development, and teamwork, highlighting that in today’s competitive environment, subject knowledge alone is not sufficient; it must be strengthened with confidence, emotional intelligence, and adaptability to ensure long-term success.

The sessions were a blend of theoretical inputs, practical exercises, role plays, and interactive discussions, which kept the students actively engaged throughout. Special focus was given to developing presentation skills, active listening, empathy and professional etiquette. The resource person also shared real-life examples to help students understand the practical application of these skills in corporate and entrepreneurial settings.

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from M.Com Semester I and Semester III students, who appreciated the opportunity to learn beyond classroom teaching and enhance their employability skills. The entire program was meticulously coordinated by Prof. Jyoti Sharma under the guidance of Prof. Jeevan Jyoti, HoD, Commerce. The Department reaffirmed its commitment to organizing such initiatives in the future, ensuring the holistic development of its students and equipping them with the skills necessary to excel in diverse professional domains.
