Induction programme organised by Dept of Botany, JU 

 

A three-day Induction Programme was organized by the Department of Botany, University of Jammu to welcome the new batch of students admitted to M.Sc. Botany programme (Session 2025–2027). The event was designed to familiarize the students with the department’s academic environment, faculty, infrastructure and its alumni. On the first day, an interactive session was held with Sh. Suresh Kumar Gupta (IFS, Batch-1991), Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force (PCCF & HoFF), J&K, an accomplished alumnus of the department. The event began with a formal welcome address by Prof. Susheel Verma, Head of the Department. Prof. Namrata Sharma shared with the audience about the student life of Sh. Suresh Kumar Gupta. Sh. Suresh Kumar Gupta shared his inspirational journey and emphasized the vital role played by the Department of Botany in shaping his professional life and values. On this occasion, information booklets carrying details about the university and the department, along with the M.Sc. course content, were distributed to the students by the guest and the faculty.

The second day of the programme commenced with the address by Prof. Susheel Verma, head of the Department, who impressed upon the students to be focused to achieve their goal. Several eminent alumni who have made significant achievements in their respective fields were invited to interact with the students. These included Sh. Rajesh Sharma (JKAS), Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Sh. Sandeep Kumar (IFS), Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, J&K Government, Prof. Sanjana Koul, Director, School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu, Sh. Reyaz Hussain (JKAS), Director Finance, Department of Industries and Commerce, J&K and Prof. Brij Mohan Singh Bhau, Central University of Jammu. Each of the distinguished alumni shared their experiences and spoke about the strong academic foundation and guidance they received from the department of Botany. The day concluded with a motivating address by Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Jammu, who commended the department for fostering a culture of academic excellence and alumni engagement. All the faculty members, along with the M.Sc. students and research scholars, attended the programme.
