3x3 Summer State ShowDown, Basketball (men & women) tournament organised by  Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu commences today at Basketball Court in which 29 teams from J&K UT and 3 teams from outside UT are participating.

The Chief Guest on the occasion, Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Director, Directorate of Distance Education and Former Director IIM, Sirmor in her address congratulated the efforts of the Directorate and particularly the students for organising such a mega event which is the first of its kind. She also lays stress on organising more and more such events in every game so that players of Jammu and Kashmir are exposed to more tournaments so that they can bring laurels to the Union territory at the National and International levels.

Mr Archit Puri, Guest of Honour on the occasion also complimented the Director, Sports & Physical education for organising different events from time to time. He promised all possible help to the players and the department for upliftment and development of the game. Sh Vikram Handa who is a sports promoter and associated with a basketball game for a long time also appreciated and focused on developing more infrastructure.

Prof. Satinder Kumar, President, Shiksha Sanskriti Uthan Nyas, was the Guest of Honour on the occasion in his remarks said that Shiksha sanskriti Uthan Nyas is working for the development of the students in all the areas and he promised that in all the future such events, Shiksha sanskriti Uthan Nyas will be a key partner for the development of the students and the players.

Earlier, Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of the Sports and Physical Education in his welcome address introduced the guests and the audience to the 3X3 format of the Basketball. In his speech, he said The Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu organised a ‘3x3 SUMMER STATE SHOWDOWN’ Basketball (men and women) Tournament under the umbrella of the Directorate which is the first of its kind in the history of Jammu in which 32 teams are participating. 4 outside UT teams named ICONIC from Jullandur, L P U warriors, Jullundhur, Team Full power from Karori mal college Delhi.

The objective of this competition purely revolves around the promotion of basketball, sports, physical fitness and wellness among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir that too with a non-profit approach thereby serving the dual purpose of offering practical to the students while developing a competitive spirit among the youth. He also paid special thanks to Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof Umesh Rai for providing this opportunity to students for hosting sports competition which will help them to learn how to manage the facilities, allocating and utilising the resources, scheduling the activities of the event, approaching the sponsors, inviting guests, media, approaching participants as well as execution of the event.

The competition will take place from June 27th  to June 29th   The organising Secretary for the events is Dr Mandeep Singh, Assistant Prof., Directorate of Sports and Physical Education. The matches will take place for men and women simultaneously on half courts. Others who were present were Sh Vimal Kishor, Asst Prof, DSPE,  Sh Amarjeet Singh, Retd. Senior India Team Basketball Coach, Sh Harjinder singh, Senior Indian Team Basketball Coach, SAI Jammu, Mrs Sushma Jamwal Senior Basketball Coach, Sh PD Singh, Sh Jai Bharat, Sh Ravish Vaid, Sh Gagan Kumar, Sh Harinder Singh. The matches were held under  Mr Harpreet Singh, Mr Vinod, Mr Gaurav Rajwal, Mr Vicky Mahajan and Sh Manoj Solanki.
