The Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), in collaboration with P.G. Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu, has organized a seminar in blended mode on the theme  “Intellectual Property Right (IPR) and Youth: Innovating for Better Future” on the occasion of “World Intellectual Property Right Day-2022” on 21st April 2022. The seminar was organized in the Seminar Hall of the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu in offline mode and simultaneously on Google Meet platform through online mode. The objectives of seminar were to delineate the concept of IP and Property Rights and to explain the nature and objectives of IPR in order to motivate young minds for creation and identification of IPs.

The event began with the welcome address and introduction of the resource person by Dr. Meghna Dhar, Internship Activity Coordinator, IIC, University of Jammu.  Prof. Susheel Kumar Sharma, President IIC, University of Jammu and Convenor of the seminar stressed upon the importance and relevance of IPR. Dr. Shivarama Rao K., Associate Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, School of Mathematics, Computers & Information Science & Director Centre for S.R. Ranganathan Library Studies, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, was the resource person. He opined that IPR has become an ‘intellectual currency’ helping to promote economic growth, company competitiveness and innovations world-wide. Nations all over the world are looking for ways to improve their economies, help their citizens and build national capabilities in many areas of technology, information and culture. The presentation was very comprehensive and based on the various aspects of IPR, its role in knowledge economy, Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights, Patent Tools,Conditions to obtain Patent Right, Trade Secrets (Know-how), Protection of Trade Secrets, Copyrights, Marrakesh Treaty, Kinds of Trademarks,Industrial designs applied to variety of products of industry and handicraft items, Geographical Indications (GI) like Darjeeling Tea, Jammu and Kashmir Saffron, Gucchi, Rajma and Basmati. The event ended up with question answer session.

 At the very outset special thanks were presented to Prof. Umesh Rai, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu and the Patron of the Seminar for his encouragement and motivation for strengthening the innovation culture in the institution. The seminar was conducted with the cooperation and support of Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Registrar, University of Jammu and Prof. Jasbir Singh, Dean, Social Sciences, University of Jammu. Dr. Meghna Dhar acted as the Moderator of the Seminar and presented formal vote of thanks.  The seminar was successfully organized with the technical support of Er. Rakshit Khajuria from UIET, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu. The seminar was attended by IIC team members, Mr. Ashwin Kumar Kushwaha, Assistant Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu besides other faculty members, Staff, Students, Scholars, and other stakeholders from various universities and colleges of India in blended mode. More than 120 participants were registered for the seminar who were awarded e-certificates.
