A record number of around 560 teachers scholars and students from the University of Jammu participated in the online Webinar on “Effective Research Planning and Execution using Scopus and ScienceDirect”, organised by Elsevier in collaboration with the Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance, University of Jammu and  Committee for Library as a Learning Resource - NAAC SSR.

Prof. Manoj K.Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized that research can be effectively carried out by planning about the research problem in advance and at the same time using the right tools to publish and reflect the research to the world. He discussed the various research metrics and the strategies to find the most relevant journals to publish in. He apprised the participants that the University in its endeavour to improve upon the quality of research has subscribed to the SCOPUS database which is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature: scientific journals, books and conference proceedings. He, while expressing his satisfaction with the research report of the University presented by Elsevier, emphasized and urged all faculty members and scholars to continue publishing in quality Journals. He also appreciated the efforts of Prof Rajeev Ratan, the Convenor of the Committee for Library as a Learning Resource (NAAC-SSR) for taking the initiative of holding this webinar in such a short span of time.

Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Director, Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance in her address said that such webinars can take research to newer heights. The data can help the researcher to not only develop critical thinking but can also inculcate effective analytical, research skills that are globally sought. She however emphasized that all disciplines are required to contribute equally in order to promote quality research in the University of Jammu.

Vishal Gupta, Customer Consultant, Elsevier, in his technical session covered in detail the purpose of the SCOPUS database, how the database can be used effectively and efficiently.

Ms Farah Siddiqui, Senior Consultant from Elsevier handled the question/answer session and moderated the whole webinar.

Dr Vikram Singh Sahi ably conducted the proceedings of the webinar and Dr Meghna Dhar presented the formal vote of thanks.
