Department of Political Science Organised Induction Programme for the Newly Admitted PG Students Batch 2025–26

As part of three-day Induction programme notified by the University of Jammu, from August 5-7, 2025, the Department of Political Science conducted induction programme at departmental level on 6th August 2025 for the newly admitted PG students to familiarise them to the academic environment, institutional ethos, and holistic development opportunities.

 

Mr. Vivek Gupta, IPS, Inspector General of Police, GRP, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and an alumnus of the department was the Chief Guest. He addressed the newly admitted students of the department in the Master Degree Programme. While addressing the students, he shared his experience about the department during his stay and also motivated them to pursue their studies and career goals. His address was stimulating, motivating and inspiring for the students.

 

Drawing on his formative years in the Department of Political Science, Mr. Vivek Gupta offered a compelling narrative of academic perseverance, personal discipline, and the transformational role of higher education in preparing individuals for public service. He underscored the relevance of Political Science discipline and urged students to approach their studies with critical engagement and academic integrity.

 

The session commenced with the inaugural address by Professor Baljit Singh Mann, who extended a formal welcome to the Chief Guest and the newly admitted students. In his address, Prof. Baljit Singh Mann presented an overview of the course structure of the Master Degree Programme and encouraged the students to cultivate universal human values and observe ethical standards to progress in their personal and professional life. He motivated the students to learn life skills and cultivate analytical approach. After this, Prof. Suneel Kumar, delivered a lecture on the Universal Human Values and Institutional Code of Conduct. Prof. Kumar articulated the philosophical and ethical principles underpinning higher education and elaborated on core human values such as dignity, empathy, truthfulness, and responsibility, and their role in sustaining both academic integrity and societal cohesion. While reinforcing the centrality of ethics in academic life, he further introduced students to the university’s institutional norms, expectations, and standards of conduct. This was followed by an interactive session in which, students engaged with chief guest and faculty members, raising questions related to academic expectations, institutional support systems, and career pathways.

The Department expressed its sincere gratitude to Mr. Vivek Gupta, IPS for his inspiring address and continued association with the department as a role model for aspiring students.  A bouquet and memento were presented to the Chief Guest, Mr. Vivek Gupta by the Head of the Department, Prof. Baljit Singh Mann, along with other faculty members, as a token of appreciation for his valuable presence and inspiring address.  The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Mool Raj, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, faculty members, organisers, and students for their active participation, and acknowledged the collaborative effort behind the successful organisation of the event. The programme was coordinated by Mr. Vishabjeet Singh Chib, whose careful planning and hard work ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the event. The event was hosted by Dr. Shaveta Chowdhary, who steered the sessions with professionalism and maintained a warm and inclusive atmosphere.
