JU Organizes BasantPanchami and Republic Day Celebrations at Surabhi Nursery School

The Department of Home Science (Human Development), University of Jammu, organized the celebration of BasantPanchami and Republic Day for the children of Surabhi Nursery School and Day Care Centre, housed within the department. The event was conceptualized as a pedagogical initiative aimed at promoting holistic development during the critical early years of life, in consonance with the principles of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE).
The programme included a Saraswati Puja to mark BasantPanchami, symbolizing the importance of knowledge and learning, followed by patriotic dance performances, culturally themed activities, and a fancy dress presentation by the young children. These activities provided opportunities for the development of cognitive, socio-emotional, linguistic, motor, and creative abilities, while also fostering early values of cultural identity and national consciousness.
Surabhi Nursery School and Day Care Centre functions as an integral ECCE laboratory setting under the Department of Human Development, providing a developmentally appropriate, play-based, and inclusive learning environment. The centre emphasizes experiential learning, emotional security, social interaction, and value-based education, which are essential for optimal brain development and personality formation during the formative years.
The event was graced by the Head of the Department, Prof.SarikaManhas, andProf.Neeru Sharma, who underscored the significance of quality early childhood interventions in laying a strong foundation for lifelong learning, well-being, and social competence. They appreciated the role of the department-run centre in integrating theory with practice in the domain of child development.
The programme was systematically planned, trained, and coordinated by the nursery school teachers Mamta Singh, Puja Bhat, and Seema Sharma, ensuring age-appropriate participation and inclusive engagement of all children. The MTS staff of the nursery, Neelam Devi, Suman Devi, and Anu, provided essential support in the effective implementation of the activities.
