University of Jammu organizes Gender Sensitisation Workshop at Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School, Rehari, Jammu

Jammu, December 20: The Centre for Women's Studies, University of Jammu, successfully conducted a Gender Sensitisation Workshop for the students of Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School, Rehari, Jammu.
Prof. Savita Nayyar, Director, Centre for Women's Studies, University of Jammu, gave the keynote address on the theme "Role of Gender Sensitization and its impact on young minds. She clarified the differences between gender and sex as well as how gender is created and used in society. She also stressed that education is one of the most important foundations for the growth and development of young students. According to her, the roles that men and women play in society are life skills, and it is by these skills that we develop our attitudes, values, and overall path in life.
Additionally, she emphasized the importance of fostering creativity and self-assurance in order to teach the pupils morality and respect for all people, regardless of gender. She added that children should learn how to deal with emotions, peer pressure, and other obstacles in life in addition to acquiring knowledge for exams. She continued by talking about how subtle features of upbringing in a variety of societal institutions, including the family, the school system, and religion, among others, affect gender. Prof. Nayyar, further gave details regarding the various constitutional provisions and legal safeguards like POSH Act, Child Marriage Restraint Act, Dowry Prohibition Act, Domestic Violence Act, POCSO Act etc. to create awareness among young students.
Smt. Pooja Rani, Senior Lecturer, Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School, Rehari, Jammu, in her address applauded the efforts of the Centre for taking this initiative. She said that change begins with awareness and such type of workshops are very essential and will help students to understand deeply rooted biases, how to challenge stereotypes, and build respectful and inclusive spaces for everyone.
