Jammu, October 29: Two students of the University of Jammu have been selected to participate in the prestigious national-level ‘Know Your Leader’ programme, organised by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, scheduled to be held at the Parliament of India on October 31, 2026, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The selected students, Ms. Anshika Gandhi from The Law School and Mr. Narayan Choudhary from the Design Your Degree (DYD) programme, will represent the University of Jammu at the national event, which brings together young participants from across the country to pay tribute to national leaders and gain firsthand exposure to India's democratic institutions.

Congratulating the selected students, Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, said that their selection was a matter of pride for the University and reflected the potential of its students to participate and make their presence felt at national-level platforms.

Prof. Rai emphasised that educational institutions have a responsibility not only to impart academic knowledge but also to prepare young people to become informed, responsible and active citizens. He said that initiatives such as ‘Know Your Leader’ provide students with an opportunity to learn about the lives, contributions and values of distinguished national leaders who played a significant role in shaping the country.

The Vice-Chancellor advised the selected students to make meaningful use of this opportunity by gaining a deeper understanding of the country's democratic traditions, constitutional values and parliamentary institutions. He encouraged them to draw inspiration from the life and ideals of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, particularly his commitment to national unity, integrity and public service.

Prof. Rai further expressed hope that the students would share their experiences and learning with their fellow students upon their return, enabling the larger student community to benefit from their participation in this national initiative.

Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Registrar; Prof. Prakash C. Antahal, Dean Students Welfare; Prof. Manju Jamwal, Director, The Law School; Prof. Alka Sharma, Director, SIIEDC; and Prof. Monika Chadha, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, were also present on the occasion. They congratulated the selected students and highlighted the significance of such opportunities in broadening students' perspectives, strengthening their leadership capabilities and encouraging greater awareness of national institutions.

The programme, titled ‘Know Your Leader – Participation of Youth of the Country in Paying Homage to Our National Leaders on their Birth Anniversary’, is scheduled to take place on October 31, 2026, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The initiative provides a platform for young people from across India to visit the Parliament of India, engage directly with democratic institutions and pay floral tributes to national leaders inside the historic Central Hall of Parliament.

Communicated through the State University Bureau of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the initiative aims to connect young participants with the legacy of India's national leaders and enhance their understanding of the contributions made by these leaders to the nation, democratic institutions and public life.

The selection of the two students further reflects the University of Jammu's continued commitment to encouraging student participation in national-level initiatives that promote leadership, civic responsibility, constitutional awareness and a deeper appreciation of India's democratic heritage.
