JAMMU: The Center for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), University of Jammu, organized an Induction Program for the incoming batch of 2026–27. The Center for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), University of Jammu, organized an Induction Program for the incoming batch of 2026–27, marking the grand culmination of CDOE’s remarkable 50-year journey of academic growth, digital innovation, and educational excellence.
The ceremony formally welcomed the new cohort of students while celebrating achievements in academics, sports, and cultural activities.
Sh. Shantmanu, IAS, Hon’ble State Election Commissioner, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he congratulated the participants and warmly recalled his long-standing association with the University of Jammu. Sharing key insights from his distinguished career, he encouraged students to unlock their full potential, cultivate inner strength, and remain fearless drawing on themes from his recently released book. He praised CDOE’s 50-year journey and affirmed that distance education learners stand on equal footing with regular students.
The program was presided over by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Umesh Rai, University of Jammu . Prof. Rai congratulated CDOE on its 50-year milestone and welcomed the new cohort. Emphasizing that the future of education lies in distance and online learning, he highlighted the implementation of NEP 2020, MOOCs, and the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB). Prof. Rai urged students to equip themselves with essential modern skills in IT, coding, banking, and accountancy to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
Prof. J.P Joorel, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. He congratulated CDOE for its continuous efforts to enhance quality distance education and also emphasized on the universality of distance learning.
Special Guest Ms. Arunima Sinha, Faculty, Art of Living delivered an inspiring session, “Mind Matters: Importance of Mental Wellbeing," encouraging students to build resilience through meditation.
Prof. Pankaj. K. Srivastava, Director, CDOE, highlighted the institution’s Golden jubilee celebrations including international conference, workshops, blood donation drives and placement drives. Prof. Srivastava presented the academic roadmap for social inclusion and digital expansion through three certificate courses, two online Master’s programs along with upcoming B.Com. under NCWEB, and One year PG courses under the NEP in selected subjects.
Earlier, Prof. Sandeep Kour Tandon, Department of Commerce, CDOE delivered the formal welcome address, extending a warm welcome to the esteemed guests, faculty members, and incoming students. She highlighted the growing prospects for distance education learning, remarking that the institution uploads standard quality to match student flexibility. Following the welcome address, dignitaries were formally greeted with ceremonial bouquets.
A short documentary film was screened, offering the audience a visual overview of CDOE’s institutional journey and academic milestones.
A major highlight of the induction event was the felicitation of CDOE’s distinguished alumni and outstanding achievers. Prominent alumni recognized for their notable career achievements include Mr. Suvan Sharma (IAS), Lt. Col. Sanjay Kumar, Ms. Urvi Langer (Assistant Director, Planning and Monitoring Department), Mr. Nitish Thappa (Canara Bank), and Ms. Alka (Lecturer in English). Demonstrating academic excellence, 22 students were honored for qualifying the prestigious NET-JRF examinations across various disciplines. Additionally, 5 sports achievers were felicitated for representing the institution at national and international levels: Ms. Ananya Choudhary (Boxing), Mr. Ayush Kumar (Handball), Mr. Atul Narayan Singh (Karate), Ms. Chetreshi (Basketball), and Ms. Abhilove Kaur (Hockey). The ceremony also recognized student achievers in cultural and literary events, alongside honoring superannuated employees for their years of dedicated service and invaluable contributions to CDOE.
The proceedings concluded on a high note with vibrant cultural performances presented by CDOE students. The ceremony drew to a formal close with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Prof. Anupama Vohra, Department of English. The program was conducted by Dr. Sumita Sharma, Joint Registrar, CDOE.
