JU joins nationwide Nasha Mukt Yuva Pledge campaign

JAMMU, August 2: Joining the nationwide "Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan," the University of Jammu today organised the Nasha Mukt Yuva Pledge, underscoring its commitment to the national movement against substance abuse and the promotion of a healthy, drug-free society. The pledge was administered ahead of the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's virtual address, in accordance with the campaign guidelines, with enthusiastic participation from students, scholars, faculty members and non-teaching staff of the University.

 

The pledge was administered by Prof. Prakash Antahal, Dean Students Welfare, who called upon the participants to remain committed to leading a drug-free life and to spread awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse. A large number of students, faculty members and non-teaching staff of the University enthusiastically participated in the programme and collectively resolved to contribute towards building a healthier, safer and drug-free society.

 

The programme was organised in keeping with the University's ongoing efforts, under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai, to promote a healthy, drug-free campus and nurture socially responsible citizens through awareness, education and community participation.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Antahal said that educational institutions have an important role in creating awareness among young people and encouraging them to make informed and responsible choices. He urged the students to become ambassadors of the anti-drug movement and inspire others to stay away from addiction.

 

Following the pledge ceremony, the participants joined the nationwide virtual programme and listened to the address of the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, who called upon the youth to remain physically fit, mentally strong and self-confident as India progresses towards the goal of Viksit Bharat. Launching the 100-week nationwide campaign against substance abuse, he urged young people to stay away from drugs, adopt a healthy lifestyle and become active participants in building a drug-free India. Emphasising the vital role of educational institutions, he appealed to teachers and professors to regularly engage students in discussions on the ill effects of drug abuse and organise sustained awareness campaigns to prevent substance abuse among the youth.

 

In addition to students and scholars, prominent amongst those who attended the programme included Prof. Satinder Kumar, Provost Boys, Prof. Monika Chadha, Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee, Dr. Pritam Singh, Dr. Ripudaman Parihar, Dr. Bharti Prabhakar, Dr. Pallavi Sachdeva, Dr. Bhagwati, Dr. P.P. Singh, Dr. Vimal Kishore, Dr. Surinder Sharma. The event was conducted by Sumeet Sharma and sound was looked after by Kulbhushan Thakur and Arif Paul. The screening was arranged by the Department of IT Enabled Services, University of Jammu.
