University of Jammu in Collaboration with Jammu Kashmir Study Centre organised a Programme on “Parliament Resolution on POJK”

Jammu, Feb 23: The Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS), University of Jammu, in collaboration with Jammu Kashmir Study Centre, successfully organised an academic programme on the theme “Parliament Resolution on POJK.” The event brought together eminent speakers, faculty members, scholars and students for an in-depth deliberation on an issue of significant national importance. 

The event started with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and paying tribute to the Bharat Mata.  The Chief Guest and the Chair for the event was Shri Nagendra Singh Jamwal, JKAS, Special Secretary in the Office of the Chief Secretary, J&K UT. Advocate Deepak Sharma, RTI activist and social activist Director DSRS; Dr. Mohd. Monir Alam, Senior Faculty in the Department of Strategic and Regional Studies, University of Jammu; Dr. Ganesh Malhotra, faculty in the Department of Strategic and Regional Studies, University of Jammu; were the main speakers of the program. 

Shri Nagendra Singh Jamwal, alumnus of the University of Jammu, delivered an insightful presidential address, underlining the constitutional, political and national significance of the Parliamentary Resolution on POJK. He appreciated the department for organising a timely and academically relevant discussion and encouraged students to engage critically with issues of national importance. His thoughtful observations set the tone for a meaningful and balanced discussion.

The event featured the distinguished speakers offered diverse perspectives on the subject. Adv. Deepak Sharma, elaborated on the legal and constitutional aspects of the Parliamentary Resolution, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and citizen awareness. Dr. Mohd. Monir Alam, provided a comprehensive historical and geopolitical perspective on the issue, tracing its evolution within the broader regional security framework. Dr. Ganesh Malhotra, examined the strategic and diplomatic implications of the Resolution in the context of regional stability and India’s foreign policy priorities.

 

Earlier, Prof. Virender Koundal, Director of the Department, delivered the Welcome Address and highlighted the importance of informed academic discourse on matters relating to sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national policy. He emphasized that universities must serve as spaces for rigorous debate and scholarly reflection on contemporary geopolitical developments.

The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Ms. Kanika Chib, M.A. 2nd Semester student of DSRS. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Ranjan Sharma. The programme was attended by members of Civil Society, members of JKSC, Dr. Sunil Kumar faculty DSRS, research scholars and students from the Department of Strategic and Regional Studies, as well as other departments of the University. Their insightful questions and engaged presence reflected academic seriousness and intellectual curiosity.
