Introduction

  • The Department of Statistics came into existence in the year 1988 with the aim of providing quality education in the field of Statistics: to develop the subject of statistics with its application and usefulness to the society: to provide qualified and trained Statisticians for the economic, social, administrative, planning and academic development of the society.
  • Presently, the thrust areas where research is undertaken in the department are Sample Survey, Reliability Theory, Information Theory, Biostatistics and Statistical inference.
  • The students undergoing Master’s & Ph.D. in Statistics have a bright future with a lot of employment opportunities available in public sectors like Planning, Administration, Banking, Data Scientists Information Technology, Teaching and Research and in private sectors like quality control, Actuarial Sciences, and Management etc.
  • The department has been marching ahead in the direction of excellence in teaching and research and is committed to keep its march towards this end.
  • The strength of the Department, however, lies in an endeavour to adapt itself to the changing scenario of statistics as a subject and to keep abreast with the best in the emerging fields and deliver the same to stakeholders.

Objectives of the Department

  • To train students and scholars on designed curriculum which is symbiosis of theoretical Statistical Knowledge with flavor of practical applications
  • To train different stakeholders and knowledge seekers with Statistical Research Methods, modern data analysis tools as well as techniques used in wide areas of learning.
  • To develop socially responsible Statisticians with global perspectives and skills
