The Department has the following major facilities:
The Botanical Garden of Department of Botany, University of Jammu was established in early 1970’s. The area of the Botanical and cactus gardens is flanked in an area of about 8 acres. It comprises about 370 plant species placed as per the natural system of classification proposed by Bentham and Hooker. Among angiosperms, monocots and dicots are placed at different landscapes; however gymnosperms are kept on a separate section of the garden. Besides a glasshouse, greenhouse, and a polyhouse are also maintained. The garden has one section for RET species, one section as herbal garden, one section as experimental plots and one section for mother plants. For preservation of plant materials in herbarium cum museum has also been recently established in the garden wherein more than 18000 herbarium specimens and more than 150 plant artifacts are placed in a proper order. Another wing of the botanical garden is dedicated to cacti and succulents wherein about 20 species are housed for research and education purposes. Number of visitors from schools, colleges and research institutes visit this garden frequently. In 2017, the garden has got annual membership from Botanical Garden Conservation Institute (BGCI), UK
Shade loving plants are grown in green house, where well maintained water circulation system and water sprinklers help to maintain the moisture during the dry seasons.
For the acclimatization of the plants of extreme climates, department of botany is having an automated green house fully equipped with air conditioned system, water sprinklers and heating devices.
For reference purpose department of botany is having the herbarium facility where the more than 18000 specimen of plants (angiosperms, gymnosperms, pteridophytes, bryophytes, macrofungi and algae) are preserved, either in dry form on herbarium sheets or in preservative jars. In addition, seed samples and other plant originated artefacts are also preserved in the museum. PLANT IDENTIFICATION AND HERBARIUM CONSULTATION facility is on payment basis. Rate of the facility approved by the University Syndicate vide Resolution No. 120.25 are applicable as given below:-

Cactus garden housing more than 30 species is covering an area of 1 acre with a channel in between. A glasshouse for acclimatization of new species is also established in the cactus garden.
Departmental library is having 2265 titles of 3218 books, 297 titles of 348 reference books and issues of 63 International and 20 national journals
To make easy access of internet and DTP work to the students of department, an internet laboratory with six computers has been established in the department.
