21-Day Medical Laboratory Techniques Training Course Concludes at University of Jammu

The 21-day intensive training course on "Medical Laboratory Techniques," organized by the Skill Innovation Incubation Entrepreneurship Development Centre (SIIEDC) in collaboration with the School of Biotechnology and Health Centre at the University of Jammu, concluded here today with a grand valedictory function and certificate distribution ceremony at the seminar hall of the School of Biotechnology.

Prof Naresh Padha was the chief guest on the occasion. Prof. Alka Sharma, Director SIIEDC, Prof. Sanjana Kaul, Director School of Biotechnology, Dr. Garima Gupta, Coordinator Skill Development and Career planning, Dr. Bharat Bhushan CMO Health Centre, Dr. Ankit Mahajan, Course Coordinator and Dr. Saloni Mahajan, Course Co-Coordinator besides faculty and students were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Naresh Padha commended SIIEDC for organizing such valuable programs and encouraged the continuation of such initiatives in the future. He extended his congratulations to all involved and urged them to persist in offering similar courses.

He said, “There is an urgent need to incorporate skill courses in the curriculum as given in the new National Education Policy and the University of Jammu is committed to make the University a hub of skill courses for contemporary elements and better employability of the students.”

Prof Alka Sharma, Director SIIEDC shared the measures which SSIEDC is taking in order to bring more skill courses to the students. She elaborated on SIIEDC's mandate and its efforts in developing skill development, innovation, incubation, and entrepreneurship.

Prof. Sanjana Kaul, Director School of Biotechnology, spoke about how the science departments are revising their curriculum to make it more skill based and create more space for hands on training. She expressed the willingness of the School of Biotechnology to carry on many such courses in the future.

Earlier, the valedictory function commenced with opening remarks by Dr. Ankit Mahajan, who briefed the audience about the course's relevance, schedule, and techniques.

He shared that The course was divided in 2 categories, first one in which students were trained in the DNA diagnostics techniques including DNA extraction from blood, Qualitative and quantitative analysis of DNA, Amplification of Human gene, PCR primers designing using UCSC genome browser, Genotyping using RT PCR, Expression studies using RT PCR, Sanger Sequencing of DNA. The 2nd part included biochemical and haematological diagnostic techniques in which they were taught how to work on a semi-automated analyser to carry out tests like Lipid profile, Renal Function tests, Liver Function tests, Hb determination, TLC and DLC determination.

Dr. Garima Gupta presented welcome address, highlighting the significance of skill education and SIIEDC's role in promoting it. She talked about the various courses that are being offered by the skill vertical and that the students should enroll in an order to increase the confidence.

Dr. Saloni Mahajan extended a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants, organizers, and supporters for their contributions to the success of the training course.
