DLL organises workshop on Gender Sensitization at JU

The Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu today organised a one day workshop on “Gender Sensitization” through virtual mode for the students of 2nd semester of MA Rural Development.

Dr. Kavita Suri, Director, Department of Lifelong Learning who has done considerable work on women’s issues was the key resource person. She apprised the students that Gender is an important consideration in development. It is a way of looking at how social norms and power structures impact on the lives of people. She made a detailed power point presentation on “Understanding Gender” and explained that a person’s gender identity can correspond to or differ from the sex as later is assigned at birth. She also showed video clips and discussed different themes related to that.

Over 25 students along with Dr. Pallavi Sachdeva, Dr. Bharti Prabhakar and Dr. Sandeep Singh, all faculty members of DLL attended workshop through online mode. Dr. Bharti Prabhakar gave inputs on women issues. Dr. Sandeep Singh also made students understand different aspects of gender issues.

The students appreciated the workshop by providing positive feedback. They also requested to organise such programmes frequently for the students
