JU to Promote Cutting Edge Research in Frontier Areas of Research –Prof. Manoj Dhar , VC

Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu Prof. M.K Dhar chaired the second online meeting of the Task force consisting of core functionaries of University of Jammu including Dean Academic Affair, Dean Research Studies, Director Colleges Development, Dean Planning and Development, Faculty Deans, HODs, Professors and officers of the University for the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Speaking on the occasion  Prof Dhar appreciated efforts of the conveners and their committee members towards the implementation of NEP 2020.

The Vice Chancellor apprised the house that JU is the first one to take initiative and constituted various committees to contribute towards different aspects of NEP 2020. From the national perspective these committees need restructuring so as to align with the National Implementation Plan and avoid any kind of overlap.

Threadbare deliberations took place during the meeting and conveners /members of various committees apprised the house on various initiatives they would be taking and shared the focus and strategies they would be including in their action plan .The various highlights of the meeting  included focusing  on making  Jammu University research oriented  and promoting cutting edge research in frontier areas and creating Research Ecosystems by incentivising the Quality research, Examination related reforms with focus on flexibility for students through continuous process of evaluation and reducing the burden on terminal exams. Various skill development and vocational courses would be initiated to make these courses available to all (Education for all)  including even the drop outs, students belonging to socially backward areas.

Since NEP 2020 envisages the promotion of online teaching using digital platforms, the key parameter for University would be to become ready for digital learning. Focus of University would be to implement the strategic mandates on Swayam Courses, Swayam Prabha, Moocs, Hybrid learning, Development of various online courses, Development of e-content , Evaluation using online modes, Recording for e content, Live streaming of sessions, Creating repository using cloud as well as maintaining database etc. Promotion of Entrepreneurship being the key focus of Atam Nirbhar Bharat, Collaborations should be done with Premier Institutes and Industry.

In his concluding remarks, Prof Dhar emphasized on  the need to expedite the process of implementation of the NEP 2020 so that University of Jammu takes the lead to be amongst the first few universities. He also mentioned that there is a need for consolidation, integration and restructuring of the task forces to avoid any kind of overlap
