3x3 Summer State Showdown Basketball concludes at JU

Directorate of sports and physical education university of Jammu proudly hosted 3x3 Summer State Showdown from 27th June to 29th June 2022 at basketball court university of Jammu. As Basketball is a noble game played by millions of young people around the world. Recently added in Tokyo Olympic in the year 2020, 3x3 basketball is a variation of basketball game which consists of four players in each team (3 players on court) for duration on 10 minutes with the aim to score points by putting the ball in the opponent’s basket. This new variation of basketball is adopted and played all over the country but SSS was first of its kind which is organized in Jammu. This tournament is an initiative by students of B.P.Ed semester 4th (Hritik Khullar, Komal, Shivam sharma, muskan rajput, neeraj Manhas,kiran kour, Kajal sharma and manisha manhas) under the guidance of Directorate of sports and physical education University of Jammu to promote new format of this game in Jammu . The objective of this competition revolves around the promotion of basketball, sports, physical fitness and wellness. The Closing Ceremony was presided over by Mr. Harjinder Singh, former senior India team coach and present SAI coach Jammu, as Chief Guest. Mr. Raman Suri, President of Jewelers Association graced the occasion as guest of Honour in the presence of  Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director of Directorate of Sports and Physical Education University of Jammu. Other prominent  Guest of the occasion were Mrs. Sushma Jamwal senior basketball coach and member of Jammu Sports Council, Mrs Rohi Gupta and Mr. Ankush Gupta owners of AR Dreamers, Mr. Joginder Singh owner of Jai Lakshmi Enterprises. Chief guest, Harjinder Singh briefed the audience about the purpose and merits of this new format. He said the new 3x3 format of basketball game serves the similar purpose as t20 format in cricket, that is to save time. He also said that this format has given many young players opportunity to develop intellectually as no coaches are allowed in 3x3 basketball, so all the decisions are made by players themselves. Mr. Raman Suri, President of Jeweller’s Association addressed the gathering and appreciated the efforts of organising committee as well as Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, Jammu University for organising such an event. Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, appreciated the efforts of Dr. Mandeep Singh Assistant Professor for guiding the organising committee throughout the entire time for putting this initiative into execution. It was league cum knockout tournament. Total 32 teams (Men section-25 & Women section-7) participated in this tournament not only from Jammu but teams from Jalandhar (namely Team Iconic) , Team from Kirori Mal college Delhi as well as team warriors from LPU also participated. Total 6 officials conducted the matches in both the half courts for men and women simultaneously. Around 20 sponsors contributed in this tournament. Total no. of matches played were 40. Throughout the tournament more than 20 guests graced the occasion. Officials as well as guests were also honored and presented Women Section Final match was played between team Jammu University (beetles) and team Ball Busters in which Jammu University(team players-Kiran Kour, Komal, Lakshika Jamwal, Tamanna) concurred the victory and took home 7100 cash prize . Ball Busters (Anupriya, Sakshi, Rimjhim, Radhika) stood first runners up and won 5100 cash price. The third place was occupied by team STC Warriors and went homw with cash price of 3100 rupees. SPECIAL PRICES: Most valuable player: Anupriya (cash price-2100 rupees) Best shooter: Kiran Kour (CP-1500) Best Defender: Chitreshi (CP-1500) Emerging player: Shallu (CP-1500) Men section The final match was played between Team Warriors and Team Beeba Boys(Jaskirat, Amanjot singh, Abhinav,Harun) with their competitive spirit team Warriors(Ranbir Singh, Shubham Sharma,Pranshu, Abhimaniyu Katoch) unleashed the Beeba Boys. 2nd runners up in men section were none other than team Jammu University (Neeraj Manhas, Hritik Khullar, Shivam Sharma).
