Department of Sociology, JU organizes online Two Weeks skill course

A two-week online Skill Course, being organized by the Department of Sociology, University of Jammu, in collaboration with the University Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre (UESDC) started on Monday on the theme “Fostering Academic and Research Writing in Social Sciences”. Fifty Research scholars from various Social Science Departments of the University of Jammu are participating in the skill course.

The session began with the introduction of the participants followed by the introductory remarks by Prof. Vishav Raksha, Head of the Department (Sociology) and Skill Course Coordinator. She extended a formal welcome to all the participants. Later Prof Vishav Raksha highlighted the importance and relevance of such courses for the research scholars and motivated them to foster their academic and research writings. 

The keynote speaker for the said session was Prof S.L Sharma, former Professor of Sociology and presently Director (Research), Institute for Development and Communication (IDC), Chandigarh.  Kajal Kalsi, Deputy Course Coordinator of the course, conducted the proceedings and formally introduced the keynote speaker, Prof. S L Sharma.

Prof S.L.Sharma spoke on the topic titled “Academic Writing vis-à-vis Research Writing”, in which he compared and contrasted the two forms of writing. He highlighted the basic rules of writing, reducing redundancies, building an argument and structuring the writing coherently. The participating scholars found the lecture to be highly insightful and educative. The session culminated with a fruitful interaction between the scholars and the speaker. Among others who attended the session included Dr Hema Gandotra, Dr Gopal Krishan Sharma and Ms Diksha Nargotra, Faculty members, Department of Sociology. In this skill course which will continue till 18th of January, 2022, the scholars will be trained by distinguished speakers from all across the country.
